This Friday, in a private ceremony under a tent, a statue representing Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna “Gigi” Bryant was unveiled. The statue is in front of the Crypto.com Arena, paying tribute to the legendary Los Angeles Lakers player and his daughter, who tragically died in a helicopter crash in January 2020 along with seven other people.

After the unveiling, the whole Bryant family was there to take a picture with the statue, as Vanessa Bryant and her three remaining daughters were there for the special moment in an eventful day.

This statue is the second of three planned monuments honoring Bryant. The first monument, a 19-foot-tall bronze sculpture commemorating Bryant’s historic 81-point game against the Toronto Raptors, was unveiled on February 8. The date of this Friday’s ceremony (8/2/24) has a similar numerological meaning to the February ceremony (2/8/24), representing the two uniform numbers Bryant wore during his career (8 and 24) and the number 2 that 13-year-old Gigi wore on the basketball court.

The statue of the father and daughter is located near the Los Angeles Kings monument, which celebrates the team’s 50th anniversary. The public will be able to visit the statue starting Saturday morning.

There will be one more Kobe Bryant statue, as Vanessa Bryant, Kobe’s widow, revealed earlier this year. The third statue will show her late husband wearing Lakers uniform number 24. This third statue is expected to be unveiled sometime during the upcoming season, according to sources.

This Friday marked the selling of Kobe Bryant’s old Staples Center locker for $2.8 million, a place where he had many great moments celebrating with his teammates, but it was also a personal space to concentrate and prepare for a game.
