Aaron Rodgers has explained his reason for shoving Robert Saleh on the sideline during the New York Jets’ win over the New England Patriots on Thursday night.
Things are suddenly looking alright for the Jets as they will emerge from Week 3 with a 2-1 record.
They made easy work of the Pats, beating them 24-3, and NY fans likely now have some hope as Rodgers is beginning to look like the player of old after spending last season out with an Achilles injury.
Still, it wasn’t all positives for the Jets, given that the QB was seen shoving his head coach after he came in for a hug when the team went up by two scores. Rodgers didn’t seem all that pleased during the interaction, either.
Aaron Rodgers Clears The Air
Speaking to reporters after the game, Rodgers admitted he was a bit taken aback as this was unusual for Saleh. He also revealed what he told the coach, with many fans having attempted to read his lips.
“He’s not a big hugger usually, so I didn’t know he was going for the hug,” the veteran signal-caller explained. “He likes to do the two-hand chest push as well. He talks a lot about two-score leads. So I kind of gave him a push and said, ‘Two-score lead.’”
Saleh’s explanation was in line with what A-Rod had to say.
“Part of the things we’ve been talking about is to just give the defense a two-score lead. And it was a two-score lead. I guess he just wanted to see something on defense. He just reminded me that, you know, it was a two-score lead,” he said.
The Jets will face the struggling Denver Broncos in Week 4 and should feel good about their chances against Sean Payton’s team.
