LeBron James and his son, Bronny James, made history on Sunday after playing over four minutes side-by-side in the second quarter during the Los Angeles Lakers preseason game against the Phoenix Suns.

The Lakers’ teammates are the first father-son duo to play together in the NBA, and the 20-year-old shooting guard left the reporters in splits with his ‘dad’ remark about LeBron.

After the four-time NBA champion missed the Lakers’ first preseason game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, LeBron returned for the game against the Suns. The Lakers were high in spirit despite losing 118-114 to the Suns on Sunday night.

During a postgame interview, Bronny was asked about his on-court relationship with LeBron, who made it clear that his firstborn cannot call him ‘Dad’ on the court. The Lakers rookie humorously said, “I’m always thinking about ‘That’s my dad’ because that’s literally my dad. But when I’m playing, he’s just my teammate. That’s all.”

Pretty Cool: LeBron James Reflects On Playing With Bronny In NBA

With the father-son duo of LeBron and Bronny playing together for the first time in the NBA, the 39-year-old was hyped after the historic moment. The NBA’s all-time scoring leader said, “It’s pretty cool for the both of us and especially for our family. It’s definitely a moment that I will never forget. For a father, it means everything.”

The Lakers made history when they drafted Bronny James in the second round in June. However, it was Bronny’s 20th birthday when LeBron fulfilled his dream, and the fans caught the first glimpse of the father-son duo playing together.

LeBron and Bronny will have more opportunities to play together with the 2024-25 NBA regular season a couple of weeks away. The Los Angeles Lakers finished 8th in the Western Conference last season and lost in the first round to the Denver Nuggets in the playoffs. With their opening game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on October 22, the Lakers will look to improve their playoff run this season.
