The Philadelphia Eagles failed Scott Van Pelt so badly last night.
The Eagles blew it in their Monday night matchup with the Atlanta Falcons.
Scott Van Pelt has been around long enough to know that a game is never over until the clock hits all zeros.
The Philadelphia Eagles led the visiting Atlanta Falcons 18-15 with 1:51 left, and were on the cusp of possibly scoring a touchdown as the offense was on the Falcons’ 10-yard line.
If not a touchdown, then a first down would end the game, and the Philadelphia Eagles would be undefeated.
Around that time, Van Pelt stood on the field during the two-minute timeout and did a promo for ESPN’s post-game coverage, and promptly predicted that the Eagles would win.
“We’re going to visit with Joe (Buck) and Troy (Aikman), show you the key moments in this game, and take you inside the winning locker room, which appears it will be the home team,” Van Pelt said. “We’ll see you when this one is done.”
The Eagles kicked a field goal from Atlanta’s 10-yard line to take a 21–15 lead with 1:39 remaining in the game after running back Saquon Barkley failed to secure a pass that would’ve ended the game.
Van Pelt’s prediction aged like ice cream in the sun as the Falcons marched 70 yards on the Philadelphia Eagles defense to score a touchdown and take a 22-21 lead.
Ouch.
The Philadelphia Eagles Bad Loss Brings Back Bad Memories From Last Season
On any given Sunday, any team can lose.
On Monday, the Philadelphia Eagles had a terrible finish at Lincoln Financial Field. They choked away a late-game win following a terrible decision in the fourth quarter.
It appears the team has learned nothing from its late-season collapse in 2023, when it started the year 10-1 and went 11-6. It could only muster one victory for the rest of the year.
The Eagles have issues everywhere, and they need to resolve them now if they want people to think they are a Super Bowl contender.
