The Denver Nuggets had a strong showing in the 2023-24 NBA regular season, securing their spot in the playoffs. They defeated the Los Angeles Lakers in round 1 but ultimately lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the conference semifinals. Following this disappointing loss, the Nuggets bolstered their roster by acquiring Russell Westbrook. The team greatly appreciates the addition of the 2017 NBA MVP to their lineup.
At the Denver Nuggets Media Day, Westbrook joined Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, and the rest of the Nuggets players. In the interview, Murray expressed his excitement about playing alongside Westbrook, mentioning the energy of the nine-time NBA All-Star.
“Russ brings his own energy whether you’re with him or not. That’s the best part. He’s ready to compete, ready to push everybody. I think the greatest part is he holds himself accountable, and he’s not just all talk. He goes out, works hard, and leads by example. I think everything he’s done and will do for us will be great.” Murray said to the DNVR Nuggets.
Westbrook had a disappointing NBA season in 2023-24, averaging 11.1 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.5 assists in 68 games. During the offseason, he was also criticized by an NFL star for his poor performance in crucial moments.
Russell Westbrook Seeks to Maximize Jamal Murray’s Potential in Upcoming NBA Season
Westbrook, who is one of only two players in NBA history to average a triple-double for a season, is excited to play for the Nuggets in the upcoming season. When asked about his strategy to play alongside Murray, Westbrook explained that it would be an incredible journey.
“My job is to be able to push Jamal to be the best he can be and play at the highest level he can. He’s an unbelievable player and still has so much room to get better in a lot of areas, and I’m grateful to be here and to help him along that journey.” Westbrook said during the media day.
The next NBA season is about to start, and Westbrook will play his first game with the Nuggets against the defending champions, the Boston Celtics.
