The Land of Shadow is going to hold many more stories.
The new area will be large and full of secrets to uncover.
In an interview with IGN, Hidetaka Miyazaki explained how the new area is going to be almost as large as Limgrave, if not bigger. Furthermore, players will find familiarity in the way they explored Limgrave when they first encountered the place in the base game.

7 Details You Missed in Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree Trailer, Including 2 Game-Changing Ones
You’ll be able to find new dungeons, enemy types, open spaces, and the likeliness of NPCs who might hint at new side-quests. After all, this was pretty much the Limgrave experience a lot of new players had when they first tried Elden Ring. Miyazaki even went on to say:
If you think in terms of scale or size, it’s probably comparable, if not larger, than the area of Limgrave from the base game.
Maybe it’s time to once again traverse Limgrave to get an accurate idea of how big the Land of Shadow will be. It’s also important to note that players won’t be traveling to this area directly from the existing map. Instead, they’ll be teleported to this place, and Miquella is going to be a big part of this narrative.
What can players expect from the Land of Shadow?
In theory, the Land of Shadow is one of the earliest places where Queen Marika first stepped in. However, the time period in this realm may be set much before the events of Elden Ring’s base game. Likewise, players will find themselves entangled in the midst of Miquella’s journey as he tries to align his purpose with Tarnished’s own journey.

“Our largest expansion to date”: Hidetaka Miyazaki Makes Some Serious Promises about Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Erdtree
Based on this, the events in Shadow of the Erdtree will introduce a range of new ways of dealing with new kinds of monstrosities. Different weapon movesets, spells/incarnations, and even new powers that the lore has to offer.
Moreover, the bosses are also likely going to be as difficult (if not more) as the fights players are familiar with from Elden Ring. What’s yet to be seen is whether or not the Land of Shadow will have an underground-esque level similar to what we’ve seen before.
Do you think the DLC will truly be as large and in-depth as one of the biggest regions in the base game? Let us know in the comments below.
