LeBron James has prompted ‘concern’ amid the latest setback shortly after his return to action
LeBron recently returned from an excused absence

As the NBA season approaches its halfway mark, the Los Angeles Lakers might be starting to round back into form — although questions remain over the future of their best player, basketball legend LeBron James.
James recently missed two games through an “excused absence” before he sat out Saturday’s win over the Sacramento Kings with an illness. Though the Lakers, at 18-13, now own the fifth seed in the Western Conference, Los Angeles simply isn’t the same without The King, and head coach J.J. Redick knows it.
Redick reveals level of concern around LeBron
Speaking to reporters on Sunday, after the Lakers defeated the Kings 132-122 the night before, Redick revealed his own King’s status moving forward — and it appears James could be ready to face his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers on New Year’s Eve.
“No concern, he’s just a little bit under the weather,” Redick told the media.

Even with his 40th birthday mere hours away, James has continued to impress in his 22nd NBA season as the Lakers chase a third consecutive playoff berth. Saturday’s game was only the third James has missed this season; he continues to average 35 minutes per night while averaging 23.5 points, nine assists, and nearly eight rebounds per game. His eight triple-doubles this season are more than he recorded in the previous two years combined — and he began 2024/25 by sharing the court with his son Bronny, fulfilling one of his final stated NBA goals.
But James is also shooting his worst percentage from the field since 2019/20, and his points-per-game average is the lowest he’s averaged since his rookie season in 2003/04. Perhaps Father Time is calling…or perhaps LeBron is saving his best for last, as he pursues a fifth championship — however unlikely.

Dallas Mavericks guard Klay Thompson is having a great first season with his new team after spending his first 13 seasons with the Golden State Warriors, where he won four championships and was one half of one of the most dynamic duos in NBA‘s recent history along superstar guard Stephen Curry: the Splash Brothers.
On Christmas Day, Thompson passed legendary shooter Reggie Miller for fifth place on the NBA’s all time three-pointers list; he currently has 2,565. Curry is at the top of list, with 3,853. Next is Los Angeles Clippers guard James Harden (3,024); the iconic Ray Allen (2,973); and Milwaukee Bucks guard Damian Lillard (2,686).

“I couldn’t ask for a better Christmas present,” Thompson said. “It’s obviously a dream come true and I’m going to celebrate because you just think of all the hours you spent shooting and all the shots you’ve gotten up in your lifetime and to pass an icon like Reggie is super-surreal, especially being a ’90s baby. I watched him hit so many game-winners, battle against the best that ever played and leaving it all out on the floor.”

Thompson was having a good time signing autographs to the fans outside of an hotel in Portland, Oregon, as the Mavericks were getting ready to battle the Trail Blazers Sunday night. Everything was going smooth until a man wanted some attention and started screaming that he didn’t care who Klay Thompson was or why were people were asking for his signature.
“But you are over there watching, you bum. What are you talking about?” Thompson said, which was applauded by fans who cheered after hearing the basketball player. Apparently the heckler was a delivery guy and the Dallas Mavericks guard took notice of that and decided to make a statement.
“Go deliver the package, go do your job, why are you standing there? Go do your job, you f****** weirdo.” Thompson added.
Mavericks’ Jason Kidd praises Thompson shooting
Klay Thompson’s latest achievement didn’t go unnoticed by Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd, a former champion with the team himself. “It’s incredible for Thompson’s journey. He’s going to go down as one of the best shooters in the game. To be able to pass Reggie Miller in the all-time three-pointers list is history.” said the former NBA guard.
