Caitlin Clark‘s brother sent a subtle message to the owner of the Washington Mystics after Sheila Johnson claimed she isn’t the only reason why the WNBA exploded with popularity in 2024 after the 22-year-old was named TIME Athlete of the Year.
Colin Clark opted to simply repost an upload to X.com, formerly known as Twitter, that showed 20,711 fans in attendance at the Entertainment and Sports Arena as the Indiana Fever took on the Mystics, in what turned out to be a record crowd.
The message was clear on his end, that his sister is why the WNBA is in a purple patch at the moment. Attendances rose by 48% from 2023 to 2024 as per CNN in Clark‘s debut season that saw her named as Rookie of the Year and All-WNBA first team, the first to do so since 2008.
And naturally fans loved the drama as they took to Elon Musk’s social media platform to react to Colin’s apparent message to Johnson.
One user wrote, “I’m here for it, she can’t afford to be messy so he’s doing it for her.”
A second added, “Also that interview probably reached CC. She’s coming for blood next year.”
A third commented, “Somebody gotta stand for her. It’s quiet out there. All I hear is CCFC and lexie hall haha of all people. Crazy times.”
And a fourth concluded, “I ain’t mad at him. The billionaire was being ridiculous.”
What exactly did Johnson say?
The 75-year-old billionaire has co-owned the Mystics since 2005 and is a member of the company that also owns the NBA’s Washington Wizards, NFL’s Washington Commanders and NHL’s Washington Capitals, so she knows a thing or two about sports.

“This year, something clicked with the WNBA,” Johnson told CNN. “And it’s because of the draft of players that came in.
“It’s not just Caitlin Clark, it’s [Angel] Reese [too]. We have so much talent out there that has been unrecognized. I don’t think we can just pin it on one player.”
