Travis Hunter is already picking up some famous fans after his Heisman Memorial Trophy win as the WNBA’s Angel Reese emotionally reacts to the victory by the 21-year-old Colorado Buffaloes star.
The receiver and cornerback won the prize with over 2200 votes, finishing ahead of Ashton Jeanty (Boise State Broncos) in a closer-than-expected contest after bookmakers tipped him as a heavy -2000 favorite.
So now he is revered as the best player in the 2024 college football season and it’s no surprise after 14 touchdowns from 92 receptions for 1152 yards, combined with 32 tackles, a forced fumble and 11 pass deflections on defense.
Nonetheless, the odds-on favorite still managed to move the Chicago Sky‘s Reese to tears in his acceptance speech, which will be one of his last acts as a player in the NCAA before he heads to the NFL in 2025.
“Why am I crying I’m so happy for Travis man,” Reese posted to X.com, formerly Twitter, as fans took to the comments to agree about the powerful emotions caused by Hunter’s words on Saturday, December 14.
One fan wrote, “Had us in tears! So happy for him!”
A second added, “I shed a tear also during his speech no cap.”
A third commented, “Had us in tears! So happy for him!”
And a fourth said, “You wasn’t the only one lil sis.”
Hunter’s mom calls him her biggest blessing
Hunter was born in West Palm Beach in Florida all the way back in 2003 to Ferrante Harris, who was a young mother at the time and she revealed she faced a lot of pressure from society because of her age when she got pregnant.
But now with her son on top of the college football world, she boldly declared him her biggest blessing and has no regrets about deciding to carry the 21-year-old to term all those years ago.
“I love the person that he is,” Harris told ESPN. “But I’m also grateful because what they said was my biggest mistake turned out to be my biggest blessing. So that just goes to show you, you can make mistakes but that does not define who you are.
