Bleach: TYBW made its long-awaited return in October 2022, reviving the iconic Big Three anime franchise and bringing it back into the limelight. After nearly a decade of lying dormant, Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War ignited a new interest in the franchise.

TYBW Part 1 received a positive response from the fans as they were delighted to see the return of their favorite character after a long time.

Part 1 ended on a cliffhanger, leaving fans eagerly awaiting the sequel and Part 2 delivered intense action between the Soul Society and 12 Sternritters.

Interestingly, the director of TYBW, Tomohisa Taguchi, once shared behind-the-scenes insights into Part 2. He said:

The 2nd cour is focussed mainly on the high-stake battles and so, we tried to expand the range of visual expression with a more vast perspective using CGI. This aided us in delivering more powerful imagery. I would appreciate it if the battle scenes are paid attention to.

Hikaru Murata, the producer of TYBW, revealed that the team’s primary goal was to bring Tite Kubo’s vision to life while meeting fans’ expectations. He added:

Under Kubo-Sensei’s supervision, we will create several anime-original scenes that could not be included in the original work. When we draw the scenarios that were in the manga, we know all there is to be shown to the audience, but in case of the extra scenes, we haven’t yet understood the answers.

Masaki Hiramatsu, the TYBW compositor, expressed excitement for fans to notice the anime-original scenes. He also mentioned that additional scenes were added to enhance the animation and make the battles easier to follow.

Bleach: The Thousand-Year Blood War Part 2 picked up exactly where Part 1 left off, at about chapter 543 of the manga. The first part adapted around 60 chapters, with the second covering a similar amount. This left Part 2’s last episode, Black, at about chapter 609 of Bleach‘s manga.

Why Bleach needs a Quincy Blood War Spin-Off

Yamamoto wasn’t just the leader of the Soul Society, but one of its founders as he helped to strengthen the organization as a part of the Gotei 13. As the oldest captain in the Gotei 13, his character was often overlooked, especially since the original Bleach rarely gave him the spotlight.

While Yamamoto might have been an elderly Soul Reaper, he demonstrates a glimpse of his terrifying Bankai in TYBW Part 1. With his Bankai’s apocalyptic fire-based powers, Yamamoto won, only to realize that his enemy was another Sternritter merely posing as Yhwach.

Though Yamamoto fell victim to Yhwach’s cheap tricks, the terrifying power of his Bankai left fans amazed, fueling speculation about his prime days.

Yamamoto’s death marked the end of a thousand years of Soul Society history. Tricked, stripped of his power, and killed in a humiliating manner, his peace had made him vulnerable. This has sparked fans’ hopes for a Bleach spin-off exploring his prime during the Quincy Blood War.
