President-elect Donald Trump, set to take office in just under a month, paid tribute to the late former US president Jimmy Carter Sunday evening on Truth Social despite the two’s verbal squabbles in the past
President-elect Donald Trump Sunday evening sent a tribute to the Carter family in the wake of Jimmy Carter’s de@th at 100 years old.
Trump said in a statement on X: “I just heard of the news about the passing of President Jimmy Carter. Those of us who have been fortunate to have served as President understand this is a very exclusive club, and only we can relate to the enormous responsibility of leading the Greatest Nation in History.
“The challenges Jimmy faced as President came at a pivotal time for our country and he did everything in his power to improve the lives of all Americans. For that, we all owe him a debt of gratitude.

“Melania and I are thinking warmly of the Carter Family and their loved ones during this difficult time. We urge everyone to keep them in their hearts and prayers.” The kind words juxtapose Trump and Carter’s political divides over the years. Carter’s administration was seen by Trump and his conservative supporters as a time of American decline. Carter claimed that Trump’s campaign had “tapped a waiting reservoir… of racism” during the 2016 election.
Just months ago, the president-elect was seen mocking carter at a rally. At an October rally in Wisconsin, Trump referred to Joe Biden as “the worst president,” before claiming the 39th President was “the happiest man because Carter is considered a brilliant president by comparison.” Trump was full of praise on the day of Carter’s de@th, but his mockery coincided with Carter’s 100th birthday, making it even more vicious.

Many family members, acquaintances, and fellow politicians expressed their condolences for the longest-serving president in US history. The former president’s son, Chip Carter, said in a statement that his father was a “hero, not only to me but to everyone who believes in peace, human rights, and unselfish love.”
“My brothers, sister, and I shared him with the rest of the world through these common beliefs,” he continued. “The world is our family because of the way he brought people together, and we thank you for honoring his memory by continuing to live these shared beliefs.”
