Summary
Luffy lacks romantic interest, focusing on food and adventure, prioritizing freedom over love.
Luffy likely won’t fall in love during One Piece due to his intense focus on goals and naivety.
Luffy may consider love post-One Piece, potentially leading to a different path from his idol, Gol D. Roger.
Although many Shōnen anime have at least some semblance of a romantic subplot, One Piece tends to lack any romantic elements. Generally, at least one of the main cast in the show is in love with another member, creating a sort of “will they, won’t they” situation. Naruto has Sakura’s love for Sasuke, Black Clover has Asta’s infatuation with Sister Lily and the list goes on.
However, more than any anime protagonist before him, Luffy has shown no interest in having a relationship. Though the most beautiful character in One Piece constantly pursues him, Luffy only seems to be focused on food and becoming the Pirate King. At this rate, even well after the end of One Piece, Luffy will never fall in love.
One Piece returns soon with chapter 1134. Elbaf’s antagonist will finally be revealed.
Luffy Has No Time For Love In One Piece
He Hasn’t Expressed Any Interest In Love Throughout His Journey
So far, throughout the entire adventure of One Piece, Luffy has not shown a single sign of falling in love. Generally, Luffy prioritizes things like food and adventure over noticing things like potential romantic partners. Additionally, although Luffy has acknowledged the beauty of characters in the past, such as with the Straw Hat Navigator, Nami, he rarely lets something like this affect him nearly as much as a character like Sanji would.
I’m not going to marry you. – Luffy to Boa Hancock
Additionally, the former Warlord Boa Hancock, who many consider to be the most beautiful woman in One Piece, is in love with Luffy. However, despite her constant pursuit of him, the Straw Hat Captain isn’t very interested in her. This is directly proven by Hancock’s power of the Love-Love Fruit, which can turn any character that finds her beautiful into stone. This ability doesn’t work on Luffy, who is far too naive to recognize Hancock as anything more than a powerful pirate ally.

Luffy May Fall In Love After The Events Of One Piece
After Growing Up, Luffy May Be An Entirely Different person
After the end of One Piece, Luffy’s love life may be a completely different story. After maturing for a bit, Luffy may be more inclined to pursue a romantic partner, similar to his idol, Gol D. Roger. Perhaps this will lead to the character having a son to carry on the infamous Monkey name. Whether or not Luffy will end up with the Pirate Empress, Hancock, is completely up in the air, though currently their relationship feels more like a parody of the usual Shōnen, “will they, won’t they” trope than a genuine potential romantic partnership.
Love is always a hurricane! – Boa Hancock
In the end, while Luffy has the potential to end up with someone, most likely Hancock, before the end of the story, it seems far more likely that he will not fall in love. Overall, Luffy is just too driven and naive to end up in a long-term relationship, especially with his current goal of finding the One Piece. Although after becoming the Pirate King, Luffy may be more inclined to start a family, as it currently stands, Luffy’s only true love is freedom. However, Oda has always been one to take unexpected twists throughout a story. Maybe, before the end of One Piece, Luffy will fall in love in a new and surprising way that no one could predict.
