“I can’t tell you how much it means to me,” the 52-year-old told followers in a video on X.
“Look, I’m a little refugee girl who fled communism, who fled Nicaragua at the age of eight.
“Found freedom, found opportunity, found a home in America.
“For me to have the chance to stand on that stage and help my girl Kamala make history and become the Democratic nominee is such a mind-blowing moment.”

Vice President Kamala Harris surprised Democratic delegates in Chicago’s United Center by delivering a short and sweet statement praising President Joe Biden.
Harris did her best Barack Obama impression by sporting a tan suit.
Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez lashed out at Donald Trump during her speech, saying he’s not an ally of the working class.
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton called Harris and Walz’s campaign “the future.”
Joe Biden took a bow and delivered an emphatic, nearly hour-long speech highlighting his administration’s achievements, and made the case that Harris was the best person to lead the country.
“She’s tough. She’s experienced. And she has enormous integrity,” Biden told a lively crowd.
The political strategist and commentator urged her followers to be “part of the celebration of democracy” which riled up Republicans.
TO THE LEFT
“Your ancestors are turning in their graves right now watching you supporting communism,” one of her followers said.
“Does Ana still call herself Republican? What Republican hosts DNC event?!? another asked.
“Ana what happened to you? Where did the Laura Bush era go? a third said.
Navarro had been a member of the Republican party for many years but turned away from the GOP when Donald Trump emerged on the scene.
“I began as a ‘Reagan Republican,'” she told followers on X in 2021.
This political decision came when she arrived in the US in 1980 and then-President Ronald Reagan supported the Contras (whom her father fought alongside) in Nicaragua.
“That was it. Signed, sealed, and delivered for Ronald Reagan and the Republican Party,” she told The New Yorker.
In 2016 she endorsed former Florida Governor Jeb Bush in the GOP race over Trump who she saw as changing the party for the worse.
Navarro had worked on Bush’s transition team and as Director of Immigration Policy in the Executive Order of the Governor.
She also worked alongside other high-profile Republicans like John McCain and Utah Governor Jon Huntsman Jr.
Navarro previously told American University’s Sociology professor Jane Hall that she hoped the Republican Party would “return to its traditional roots.”
Who is Ana Navarro-Cárdenas?
Navarro was born in Nicaragua but fled with her family to the United States in 1980 at the age of eight due to the political upheaval in her home country.
Her father stayed behind to fight with the Contras which saw Navarro and her family support Republican President Ronald Reagan who backed the rebel group.
She has worked alongside several high-profile Republicans including Florida Governor Jeb Bush in 1998.
Navarro has since become a political commentator for ABC News and CNN.
She is also a co-host on ABC’s The View alongside Sunny Hostin, Joy Behar, Whoopi Goldberg, Alyssa Farah Griffin, and Sara Hines.
Navarro married Al Cárdena, the former chair of the Florida Republican Party in 2019.
“There’s this part of me that really rejects the idea of being kicked out by Trump, a guy who was a Democrat when I was a Republican,” she said.
“A guy who was an independent when I was a Republican. A guy who I don’t feel is a Republican.
“I really believe in the need of having two healthy parties, at least two healthy parties offering ideas because I do think that there are different perspectives and different representations of America.”

‘COUNTRY OVER PARTY’
While some fans have slammed the political commentator for her swing to the left, other Republican voters are in her corner in the growing “Republicans for Harris” group.
“Go get ’em Ana! #RepublicansForHarris” one said.
Others praised the “country over party” idea which is being adopted by some Republican voters who, like Navarro, are anti-trump, not anti-republican.
“News flash folks! You can be a Republican and also NOT be in a cult. Country over party, idiots!” one said.
The Harris campaign has been urging Republican voters who do not align themselves with Trump to vote for the Democratic ticket even if they do not agree on all policy points.
At the DNC, the Democrats will be giving a space to “everyday Republican voices” including “ex-MAGA activist” and conservative commentator Rich Logis who spoke at Monday’s event.
Some said Ana’s part in the DNC is her “taking care of business.”
“In 2024, I’m a single-issue voter: for Trump to lose,” she states in her bio on X, and her part in Tuesday’s events proves that this is her mission.
On Monday night, the news anchor shared a picture of herself at the DNC while President Biden was delivering his emotional keynote speech.
Dressed in a blue jacket and top, she smiled at the camera as Biden appeared on the large digital screen behind her.
“I heart @Joe Biden,” she wrote in the caption.
The other DNC hosts have been confirmed as Kerry Washington, Tony Goldwyn, and Mindy Kaling.
Democratic National Convention roundup
Delegates from across the nation decended into Chicago’s United Center to formally celebrate Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democrats presidential nominee.
DNC Night 1 highlights:
Delegates showed an outpouring of gratitude for President Joe Biden, the Democratic incumbent who has decided to end his reelection campaign and pass the torch to his vice president to lead the nation.
An emotional Biden, who wiped away tears as a raucous crowd chanted, “Thank you, Biden, delivered an emphatic speech that diverted past the scheduled primetime hour.
Supporters praised the president for his 50-year career in public service that began in Delaware.
“For 50 years, like many of you, I’ve given my heart and soul to our nation, and I’ve been blessed, a million times in return, with the support of the American people,” Biden said.
New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez gave a fiery speech to the crowd as she dug into Donald Trump.
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton received a standing ovation as she called Kamala Harris and Tim Walz’s campaign “the future.”
Clinton, the first woman to win a presidential nomination in 2016, said she believes Harris will finally get the job done and break the glass ceiling.
“There was 2016 when it was the honor of my life to accept our party’s nomination for president. And nearly 66 million Americans voted for a future where there are no ceilings on our dreams,” Clinton said.
“And afterwards, we refused to give up on America. We kept our eyes on the future. Well, my friends, the future is here. I wish my mother and Kamala’s mother could see us. They would say, ‘Keep going.'”
REPUBLICAN REUNION
But Navarro is not the only Republican to turn her back on Trump.
The 45th President’s former press secretary Stephanie Grisham is set to speak at the DNC on Tuesday, according to NBC News.
Grisham became a huge Trump critic following the Capitol attack on January 6, 2021, which came shortly before her resignation.
“I never thought I’d be speaking at a Democratic convention. But after seeing firsthand who Donald Trump really is and the threat he poses to our country, I feel very strongly about speaking out,” she told NBC News.
She confirmed her appearance at the Union Center in Chicago in a post on X in which she said, “Well I’m doing a thing tonight.”
“This was a great idea by the DNC to have Republicans speak at the convention, to show other Rs on the fence that they would also be doing the right thing to vote for Harris,” one supporter said.
“You’ll get a lot of hate. But you get to go to sleep with integrity. You win!” another added while some slammed her for no longer being a Republican.
Other Republicans planning to take to the stage for the DNC include former Illinois Rep. Adam Kinsinger, ex-Georgia Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan, Olivia Troye, the former aide to Vice President Mike Pence, and Major John Giles of Mesa, Arizona.
Meanwhile, a top Democratic congressman has told The U.S. Sun that anti-Israel protestors targeting the DNC may trigger a Trump presidency.
