Sides only spent two seasons as the head coach of the Fever before getting axed.

She had a simple message for fans of the team after the firing took place.

“Leave it better than you found it,” she tweeted.

The Fever also released their own statement after the firing.

“We are incredibly thankful to Coach Sides for embracing the challenge of leading us through an integral transition period over the last two seasons, while also positioning us well for future growth,” Fever President of Basketball Operations Kelly Krauskopf said.

“While decisions like these are never easy, it is also imperative that we remain bold and assertive in the pursuit of our goals, which includes maximizing our talent and bringing another WNBA championship back to Indiana.

“Coach Sides was an incredible representative of the Fever and our community, and we wish her nothing but success in the future.”

Sides did help the team improve, as the Fever played to a better record each year she was head coach.

The year before she came into the job the team had a 5-31 record.

That improved to 13-27 after her first year as head coach and then bumped up to 20-20 this year.

The Fever also made the WNBA playoffs in their first year with Clark on the team.

Still, it wasn’t enough to keep her as the team’s head coach and they are now on the hunt for services from a rival coach.

Connecticut Suns coach Stephanie White has emerged as a candidate for the Fever job, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

White previously served as the Fever’s head coach in 2015 and 2016 where she led the team to a 37-31 record over that time.

She also played for the team back when she was in the league herself.

White moved on to coach at Vanderbilt before reentering the league with the Sun.

There she led them to a WNBA Finals appearance in her first year as head coach.

White is still under contract through the end of next season, but she has been linked to both the Fever and the Chicago Sky.

It is possible that other teams are on the hunt for her services as well, as their are six head coaching vacancies around the league.

There is still a long offseason ahead, and there is no telling who could end up as the favorite for the job coaching Caitlin Clark.
