NICK Jonas has revealed the origin story of how he was discovered in a hair salon before booking his first Broadway gig.

The Jonas Brothers singer, who will star as Jamie in the musical The Last Five Years next spring, is no stranger to the Broadway stage.

While speaking about his upcoming gig on Good Morning America, Nick, 31, recalled singing in a hair salon at the age of six.

By chance, Nick said a woman who was getting her hair done turned to his mom and said her son was starring in Les Miserables on Broadway.

She then suggested Nick contact his manager, and shortly after, he made his debut in 2001 in a production of Annie Get Your Gun.

Nick, who presented at last night’s Tony Awards, went on to star as Chip in Beauty and the Beast on Broadway and later appeared as Marius in the 25th Anniversary Concert of Les Miserables.

The singer returned to the stage in the musical How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying in 2012, taking over the lead role from predecessors Daniel Radcliffe and Darren Criss.

Nick was last on Broadway in 2023 when the Jonas Brothers did a five-day residency at the Marquis Theatre.

On Sunday, it was announced that the Disney Channel star will star in the upcoming revival of The Last Five Years alongside Tony Award winner Adrienne Warren.

Nick will play budding novelist Jamie, who attempts to navigate a difficult relationship with his aspiring actress girlfriend Cathy, played by Adrienne.

The Jason Robert Brown musical debuted in Chicago in 2001 and played Off-Broadway in 2013, but never made its official transfer to the Broadway stage.

However, it did garner a cult following, which led to a movie adaptation being released just one year after its Off-Broadway run.

The film stars Jeremy Jordan, who is currently starring in The Great Gatsby on Broadway, alongside Pitch Perfect’s Anna Kendrick.

Most recently, an Off-West End revival played in 2016, and a 20th anniversary performance streamed on YouTube in 2021.

READY FOR HIS RETURN

When speaking about his excitement over the upcoming project, Nick said he is ready for the “crazy journey” ahead with The Last Five Years.

“This is a show that I’ve loved for a very long time,” Nick told GMA’s Michael Strahan.

He then recalled that while he was on Broadway as a young kid, many of his adult cast mates were “obsessed” with the show’s 2013 cast album.

“My parents took me to Virgin Megastore, we bought the album, I just wore it out,” he added.

“Since then to now I’ve dreamed of playing Jamie in the show. When Adrienne came on board, it was just a dream come true.

“We’re trying to bring something special and different to this show that is so beloved but couldn’t be more excited to be working with this incredible team,” Nick said.

On the iconic musical returning to the big stage, composer Jason said it felt like it was finally the right time.

“I have always believed that when the time was right, The Last Five Years would make its way to Broadway,” the Tony-winning lyricist explained.

“To have Nick and Adrienne taking on these roles is a composer’s dream come true, and to have Whitney’s extraordinary guidance and vision is the hope of every playwright.

“It has taken 25 years, but the time is right.”
