John Hartman, 40, plays Nigel Chessum, the leader of the British Revolutionary ghosts in the hit sitcom.
The CBS comedy series is an adaptation of the British series of the same name that aired on the BBC.
He appeared in a new video posted on the shows official social media account.
But the casual dress looked a far cry from his portrayal as the dead soldier in red musketeer uniform.
The actor wore a casual grey and brown overcoat and a buttoned white shirt as he promoted the new episode of the show.
“I play Nigel Chessum [and] we’ve got a brand new episode coming at you next week.”
He added: “The premiere for season four, it’s going to be very exciting, unexpected and spooky.”
After he spoke with his distinct American voice, fans flooded the comments section in surprise.
They were completely taken aback that he did not come from Britain at all, after his compelling portrayal.
One wrote: “You’re not British????,” along with a crying with laughter emoji.
“I totally did not recognize him at all,” commented a second user.
As a third stated: “Wow, he is American?! I am British and yes his accent is a little over the top but I thought he was British but just doing a theatrically and over the top British accent, if you get what I mean.”
While a fourth exclaimed: “Plot twist! Nigel isn’t a Brit!!”
A fifth added: “Came to the comments to see who just learned John is American.”
The new series of Ghosts premieres tonight on CBS.
