Senator and 2024 Trump running mate JD Vance squared off against Minnesota Governor and 2024 Kamala Harris running mate Tim Walz on the night of Tuesday, October 1 in a vice presidential debate hosted by CBS News. Most online agreed that the debate went Sen. Vance’s way, and the comments on the matter were utterly hilarious.

The debate was highlighted by incidents such as Gov. Walz being asked about one of his lies and responding by rambling about his childhood, by Sen. Vance being fact-checked against the debate rules by Margaret Brennan and responding with an epic retort of his own, and by Gov. Walz’s continual deer in a headlights look.

Commenters online pulled no punches when commenting during and after the debate on how awful Gov. Walz did. For example, posting on X (formerly Twitter), women’s sports activist and conservative personality Riley Gaines said, “Walz as VP might be even worse than Kamala as VP. Wow. Quite the achievement.”

Megyn Kelly, who shredded Kamala and ABC News after the Trump-Harris debate, chimed in on X as well, writing, “Walz nervous. Unsteady. JD – absolutely perfect first answer.” The conservative X account “Comfortably Smug” roasted Walz as well, writing, “Moderator: ‘Tim Walz, you have been lying’ Tim Walz: ‘I grew up in a small town and rode my bike’ Lmao bro is completely broken.”

The Daily Wire’s Ben Shapiro chimed in on X and torched Walz as being a fool and looking entirely scared. In one tweet, he wrote, ” Vance has two standard deviations in IQ on Walz.” He then added, in a second tweet, “Vance gives a tremendous answer on illegal immigration. Walz looks as though he’s been detained by a police officer for shoplifting.”

Similarly, the Libs of TikTok X account joked, “Tim Walz looks like a deer in the headlights.” Meghan McCain did as well, saying, “Walz is so uncomfortable it’s hard to watch.” Scott Jennings said much the same thing as the Libs of TikTok, writing, “I’ll say this for Walz, he has perfected a look of sheer terror and complete bafflement all at the same time.”

In another funny tweet, Jennings joked, “Tim Walz wandered into the wrong bar tonight, folks.” And in yet another funny tweet about Walz during the debate, Jennings joked, “Walz frequently freezes like he’s buffering on a slow WiFi connection.” Saagar Enjeti said, more seriously commenting on how poorly Walz did, “15 minutes in and its clear that Walz not doing interviews was a big mistake: He’s nervous and JD is comfortable because he’s been in doing an adversarial interview a day since he was picked.”

Also joining in the Walz mockery was Clay Travis, who pointed to the embarrassing incident in which Walz rambled about his childhood when asked about his China lies. Travis wrote, “Tim Walz is asked why he lied about his trip to China, gives the most cringe-inducing answer of debate season. Seriously watch this unmitigated disaster.” Watch it here:

Even The Atlantic’s David Frum admitted that Gov. Walz had been utterly trounced by Sen/ Vance during the debate, posting, “Vance is going home tonight with Walz’s wallet. Vance didn’t even have to snatch it, Walz just handed it over, along with a bunch of unearned compliments to Vance’s fine character.”
