With significant financial security secured on his new deal, New Orleans Saints star running back Alvin Kamara has decided to come clean about the injuries he’s dealing with.
On Tuesday, news broke that the Saints signed Alvin Kamara to a two-year contract extension worth $24.5 million. The 29-year-old skipped a mandatory minicamp session hoping for a new contract, but he never held out and was finally awarded a well-deserved extension.
Speaking to reporters to discuss his new deal on Wednesday, Kamara revealed that he’s been playing through a broken hand he suffered in Week 5 against the Kansas City Chiefs, and that he’s still nursing broken ribs.
“Nobody in 100 percent in this league,” Alvin Kamara said, according to Matthew Paras of The Times-Picayune/The New Orleans Advocate.
The Saints lost 33-10 to the Denver Broncos on “Thursday Night Football” last week, dropping them to 2-5 on the season. New Orleans has lost five straight games following an excellent 2-0 start that saw them put up consecutive 40-burgers.
Derek Carr remains sidelined with an oblique injury he suffered in the Week 5 loss to Kansas City, forcing Dennis Allen to start rookie Spencer Rattler. Alvin Kamara’s group has been outscored 84-37 during their two-game losing skid.
Kamara himself has been one of the few bright spots for New Orleans this season, with 438 rushing yards, six touchdowns and 34 catches for 252 yards and one score. He’s on pace to hit 1,000 yards rushing for the first time in his career.
Alvin Kamara Remains The Centerpiece Of Saints Offense
The Saints have received a plethora of calls to begin a long overdue rebuild, but the Kamara extension suggests they’re not willing to go there. In the Saints’ defense, Kamara has been the focal point of their offense since 2020, so i’s understandable that they’re keen on retaining him long-term.
