Indiana Fever's new hire prompts fans to call for Lisa Bluder as coach instead of Christie Sides

The Indiana Fever wasted no time hiring a new general manager to guide Caitlin Clark but fans want more as they call for Lisa Bluder to replace Christie Sides, despite making their first postseason since 2016.

The impressively side hired Amber Cox as the organization’s new chief financial officer and GM after she previously worked as an executive for the WNBA, as well as with the Phoenix Mercury, Connecticut Sun and Dallas Wings.

“I am excited to be joining the Fever during this historic time in the WNBA,” Cox said in a press release. “And I am grateful to Kelly, Fever ownership, and Mel Raines for this opportunity.

“From the top down, there is a commitment to invest in the Fever to ensure the team’s continued growth and success, and I look forward to contributing to a world-class experience for our fans, as well as our players, both on and off the court.”

Yet despite Clark‘s achievements in 2024 with the team as she won Rookie of the Year and also qualified for the play-offs, although they were eliminated in the First Round by the Connecticut Sun, fans aren’t too keen on Sides.

It comes after a perception that the 22-year-old was mishandled by the third-season head coach, particularly when it came to protecting her from fragrant fouls which was a common tactic used by the Fever‘s opponents.

One user posted to X.com, formerly Twitter, “‘I’d like to thank Christie Sides for her service and wish her well. I’d like to welcome Lisa Bluder as the Fever‘s new coach'” (one can wish).”

A second added, “Please hire Lisa Bluder as your next head coach! Thank you and God bless!”

A third wrote, “I sincerely hope Caitlin is able to put aside any optimism she may have that Sides is going to change. We need a Lisa Bluder or Cheryl Miller.”

Who is Lisa Bluder?

Bluder worked as the head coach for the Iowa Hawkeyes from 2000-2024 and is notably the coach who oversaw Clark‘s rise to dominate the NCAA, where she shattered the women’s and overall points scoring records.

Under the stewardship of the 63-year-old, Clark averaged 28.4 points per game, 8.2 assists per game and 7.1 rebounds per game in 139 appearances before graduating to the WNBA as the overall first pick of the 2024 draft.

Bluder won five Big 10 tournaments and two Big 10 championships, made two NCAA Regional Final Fours and won 889 college games (.693) as well as being voted Big 10 Coach of the Year three times and Naismith College Coach of the Year once.
