Patrick Mahomes ‘RENOUNCES’ his father’s legacy in PAINFUL decision

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes

Patrick Mahomes is known for being one of the most talented quarterbacks to take the field in the NFL.

However, the Chiefs star wasn’t limited to just playing football when he was younger. During high school he was a talented basketball player, averaging more than 19 points and eight rebounds a game.

He also showed his skills on the diamond, with his father having played in the MLB. As a result he spent countless hours playing with his dad, and could have perhaps pursued a career in baseball had things gone differently.

While taking part in a “Would You Rather?” promotion video with Jake from State Farm, Mahomes was asked whether he preferred basketball or baseball as his ‘other sport’ aside from football.

Despite baseball being in the family, Mahomes went the other way and picked the hard court: “100 percent basketball.”

Mahomes was a force on the hard court

Mahomes’ basketball career was profiled by ESPN earlier this year. The piece included Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry complimenting Mahomes for his creativity on the court, though he noted that his jump shot needed some work.

“It goes in…in doesn’t always have to be pretty. I’m not gonna shoot like Steph,” was Mahomes‘ response.

Known for his playmaking skills on the field and his ability to get away from defenders, Mahomes believes he developed those skills while playing basketball.

“The skills of playing the point guard position specifically really helped me… if you watch me scrambling around, it’s the same thing,” said Mahomes.

“I look like I’m moving slow, but I’m getting where I need to get to. And I feel like in basketball, I was the same way.”
