Michael Vick is in talks to land his first head coaching job.
The former quarterback, a standout at Virginia Tech before going on to star in the NFL, told The Virginian-Pilot he has formally interviewed for the HC vacancy at Norfolk State.
Vick revealed the program reached out first, and that he has had conversations with president Javaune Adams-Gaston and athletic director Melody Webb.

“A Newport News native and former NFL Pro Bowler, Vick has no formal coaching experience,” the Pilot notes. “He was a training-camp intern with the Kansas City Chiefs and was set to be the offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Legends of the Alliance of American Football — a now defunct spring league — but ultimately served as an adviser.”
“I know how to lead and I know what it takes,” the former QB said.
Vick said he expects a final decision to be made “soon.”
Should he get the job, it would be his first at the college level. The school is looking for a new head coach after firing Dawson Odums, who went 15-31 in four years.
Michael Vick Has Been With FOX Since 2017
Michael Vick intends to build a staff of more experienced coaches to help him at Norfolk State.
Since he hung up the boots, the 44-year-old has spent most of his time as an analyst for FOX Sports, providing coverage and pregame analysis for multiple FOX networks.
He would take over a Spartans program that has struggled since being promoted from the Division II CIAA to the Division I Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in 1997.
The school’s only MEAC title (2011) was vacated because they used ineligible players.
