SUMMARY

Ever since One Piece started, the one thing that has made Luffy unique is his judge of character.
Luffy has always put his trust in the right person even though the whole One Piece world was against him.
However, it looks like Eiichiro Oda might finally drop this trope to make Elbaph interesting.

With only eight chapters under its belt, the Elbaph arc has already become one of the greatest storylines in One Piece. The arc has already seen some of the greatest developments in the different aspects of the story, and it is only going to get better from here. However, in order to do that, Eiichiro Oda might have to drop a major trope that has been going on since the beginning of One Piece.

This trope revolves around Luffy and his trusting nature. Ever since One Piece started, almost every character that Luffy has trusted has turned out to be a significant inclusion in the narrative. These characters have always been on the good side no matter what the initial plot says about them, and this makes Luffy look like a better judge of character.

But there is a possibility that this plot structure might change, as for the very first time, Luffy has put his trust in a person who might prove to be the villain of the Elbaph arc. If Oda decides to break the Luffy-trusting trope in the Elbaph arc, it will surely take the One Piece storyline to the next level.

Luffy Has Never Trusted A Wrong Character

Since the beginning, Eiichiro Oda has portrayed Luffy as a goofy, senseless kid who always does things that suit him. He does not care about what other people think about him and relies solely on his intuition and his gut while making even the most serious decisions of his and his crewmates’ lives. However, he has rarely been wrong.

Aside from doing things intuitively, the one other thing that makes Luffy unique is his ability to judge a character and place his trust in them. There have been many instances where he has put his trust in a character who has been portrayed in a negative role, but eventually, he/she has turned out to be on the good side of the story.

This is one of his best qualities and also the reason why everyone is able to connect with him so easily. This One Piece trope has been followed by Oda in almost every arc, as it helps in developing a better image for Luffy and also adds a nice twist to the narrative.

Eiichiro Oda Might Drop The Luffy Trope in Elbaph

While the Luffy-trusting trope is certainly a great inclusion to the One Piece storyline, it has been dragged on for far too long. Thus, there is a chance that Oda might dump this trope in Elbaph and introduce an unexpected turn of events to make the storyline even more enticing for fans. This was hinted at during Luffy’s meetup with Loki in the Underworld of Elbaph.

Since the beginning, Loki has been assumed to be the villain of the Elbaph arc. His actions against his country and his own father, King Harald, put him at the top of the list of One Piece villains.

But the only problem is that Luffy does not know anything about it, and he has put his trust in him. Not only that, Luffy has most likely agreed to free Loki in exchange for information about Shanks.

Thus, if the assumptions about Loki turn out to be true, it will be probably one of the first times that Luffy puts his trust in the wrong person. It will finally break the One Piece trope that has been going on for so long and will make the Elbaph arc one of the darkest storylines in the history of the series.
