In the post, Bueckers shared some of her favorite snaps from the ongoing season so far. Amid a few moments from her performances on court and hyping up the crowd at Storrs, Bueckers also shared a picture alongside teammates Azzi Fudd and Caroline Ducharme, with the trio giving Huskies coach Geno Auriemma a special gift after their 85-40 win over the FDU Knights as he recorded his 1,217th Division I win, making him the winningest coach in men’s and women’s college basketball history.
Bueckers, who has two million followers on Instagram, instantly drew comments from her well-wishers on social media. Among them was her former teammate, Nika Mühl, who shared a message to hype up the redshirt senior.
Nika Mühl was quick to hype up former teammate Paige Bueckers on social media.
“Don’t play w her,” wrote Mühl.
Mühl and Bueckers joined UConn together as freshman recruits in the 2020-21 season. Amid an injury-ravaged season, the duo held down the backcourt, powering the Huskies to a Final Four finish last season. They missed out on the NCAA Tournament final following a narrow 69-71 defeat to Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
In 35 appearances, Mühl averaged 6.9 points, 6.8 assists and 4.0 rebounds, earning a place in the All-Big East Second-Team. The Seattle Storm took notice of the Croatian, making her a second-round pick in this year’s WNBA draft.
Bueckers, meanwhile, opted to play another season at Storrs instead of declaring for the WNBA draft. Despite the duo going their separate ways, they are still best of friends, with Bueckers inspiring her “twin” with a kind message after Mühl suffered a season-ending ACL injury during her overseas debut for Turkish side Besiktas.
Paige Bueckers makes emphatic start to her final season at UConn
Paige Bueckers is driven to win the elusive national championship in her final season at Storrs, and her performances in the Huskies’ opening four games being indicative of that.
Across those four games, Bueckers has averaged 20.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.8 steals. Touted as the top pick in next year’s WNBA draft and being the only player besides USC sensation JuJu Watkins to earn a unanimous selection in AP’s Preseason All-American team, Paige Bueckers will look to keep up her fine form, which will ultimately play a major part in how the Huskies fare this season.
