The Green Bay Packers’ stunning decision to move up and select Jordan Love in 2020 immediately forced Aaron Rodgers to pour himself a drink.

Despite the presence of a 36-year-old Aaron Rodgers, who was still in his prime, the Packers moved up to select the Utah State QB with the No .26 pick. The move was the biggest stunner of the 2020 NFL Draft, but with the benefit of hindsight, we now know that the Packers made the right call all along.

In the new Netflix documentary, “Aaron Rodgers: Enigma,” the four-time MVP revealed his immediate reaction when he learned of the Jordan Love pick:

“I looked down at my phone and my agent just texted me: ‘Quarterback.’ And I was like, ‘No f–king way,’. Then the pick happens, and I immediately got off the couch and was super non-reactive. And I just went to pour myself some tequila and went back to the couch and knew there was going to be some interesting conversations.”

In Rodgers’ defense, he responded by winning back-to-back MVP awards and leading Green Bay to consecutive 13-win seasons. He retained the starting job through 2022, before both sides agreed to a split after a disappointing 8-9 finish.

Packers Were Wise To Swap Aaron Rodgers For Jordan Love

Aaron Rodgers’ tenure with the New York Jets has been the utmost disaster thus far, with the team sitting at 4-10 with three games to go. Jordan Love, meanwhile, has the Packers sitting comfortably at 10-4 with a second straight playoff appearance on the way.

As they did with the decision to have Rodgers replace Brett Favre as the starter 16 years ago, the Packers brass crushed it with the call to have Love replace A-Rod.

Aaron Rodgers Throws Shade At Jets Owner Woody Johnson As Public Feud Intensifies

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers seemingly took another big-time shot at owner Woody Johnson as their beef intensifies.

It’s no secret that Aaron Rodgers and Woody Johnson haven’t seen eye-to-eye amid a drama-filled 2024 Jets season. It’s been reported that Johnson recently pushed for the idea of the Jets benching Rodgers, with other whispers stating the four-time MVP wants to play elsewhere.

If Rodgers wants to cool down rumors that the relationship between him and Johnson is just fine, let’s just say the future Hall of Famer isn’t holding up his end of the bargain.

One day after making comments on “The Pat McAfee Show” about the importance of ownership publicly “backing” its general manager and head coach, Rodgers threw further shade at Johnson in his presser on Wednesday.

Per The Athletic’s Zack Rosenblatt, Aaron Rodgers offered the following explanation when asked if he feels as though Jets ownership has offered the support of the head coach and GM:

“Is that a rhetorical question? I cited an example I’ve seen. There were other examples in Green Bay, both for and maybe not as for whoever was in charge. But I think it’s an important part of ownership to hire the right guys, set the vision and support them when the outside world is trying to tear them down.”

Pressed further on the question, Rodgers again passed on the opportunity to give Johnson a thumbs up:

“I’d have to look,” Rodgers said. “I’ll ask you guys, has there been a lot of public comments? Supportive comments?”

The Jets fired head coach Robert Saleh after a close Week 5 loss to the Minnesota Vikings in London. Six weeks later, GM Joe Douglas was let go after just under five years at the helm. Jeff Ulbrich was named the interim HC after Saleh was let go.

Aaron Rodgers May Benefit From A Fresh Start In 2025

Rodgers’ numbers haven’t been that bad this year (a 62.5 completion percentage for 2,627 yards, 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions), so it’s unfair to put all the blame on him in Gotham.

That said, it’s evident that the Jets and Rodgers would benefit from a split in the offseason. This team needs to draft and develop a young quarterback, and A-Rod needs to go to a non-dysfunctional team that will give him the right coaching staff and front office management to maximize his talents.
