A cause of death has been disclosed in the case of Jacoby Jones.
The former NFL player and Super Bowl hero was found dead at his New Orleans residence on July 14, sending shockwaves through the league given how surprising his passing came about.
“We want to express our gratitude for all the kind thoughts and support you have shown us during this challenging time,” a statement from his family read. “Your ongoing support and respecting our privacy means a lot to us.”
According to TMZ, Jones, who was just 40, died from heart disease caused by long-term high blood pressure. The outlet cited the medical examiner who oversaw the former player’s autopsy.

“My brother, you will truly be missed,” Hall of Famer Ray Lewis, a former teammate of Jones, wrote.
“They can’t take the memories and the hard work you put in on and off the football field. You always gave back and always a pillar in the community, a Ravens for life. Love ya JJ”
“We are completely heartbroken to learn about the passing of Jacoby Jones,” the Ravens shared on social media. “Jacoby had the unique ability to connect with everyone he encountered. His charisma, joy, and love created a one-of-a-kind presence that could light up any room or brighten any dark day.”
Jacoby Jones was a third-round pick in the 2007 NFL Draft after playing at Lane College.
He played five seasons for the Houston Texans before moving to Baltimore and helped them win the Super Bowl.
He also had short spells with the Los Angeles Chargers and Pittsburgh Steelers.
