LeBron James and his son, Bronny James, made history during the Los Angeles Lakers’ season opener against the Minnesota Timberwolves. They became the first father-son duo to play on the same team in the NBA’s history. While many fans celebrated this remarkable achievement, the duo also set another record in the league.
Despite playing only one game in the league, Bronny achieved a milestone without making significant contributions in that first game. In his brief 3 minutes on the court, he scored no points, had no assists, and recorded one rebound. However, this achievement is mainly due to the efforts of his father, LeBron James, throughout his career.
According to George Mikan’s recent post on X (formerly Twitter), LeBron and Bronny’s duo became the highest-scoring father-son duos in NBA history. This achievement highlights LeBron’s impressive career, during which he has amassed a staggering 40,490 points to date.

3. Curry’s (Steph 23,668/Dell 12,670)
2. Bryant’s (Kobe 33,643/Joe 5,252)

The James duo has surpassed the combined points of Kobe Bryant and his father, Joe Bryant, on the all-time father-son duo points leaderboard. Kobe scored a total of 33,643 points, while Joe contributed 5,252 points. In third place are Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry and his father, Dell Curry, with Stephen recording 23,668 points and Dell adding 12,670 points.
Stephen A. Smith Praises Bronny James For His Tough Times
Bronny James experienced a cardiac arrest last year during a basketball workout at the University of Southern California. It was later revealed that he had a congenital heart defect. Despite facing numerous challenges, he persevered and joined the NBA. However, after he was drafted, he faced ongoing criticism from NBA fans.
Many accused Bronny, who is just 20 years old, of being selected solely because of his father’s influence. Recently, Stephen A. Smith defended Bronny against these critics during an episode of his podcast.
“Anybody with a heart, anybody with a core decency about themselves should be rooting for Bronny James. By all accounts, he is a tremendously good kid. By the way, had that heart ailment. Had to be hospitalized, his first year at USC, before the semester and the season even started. Life was in danger, his life was saved by folks at USC, ultimately recovered and ended up back on the basketball court, all beautiful beautiful story.” Smith said.
Bronny’s upcoming game is against the Phoenix Suns at Crypto.com Arena. It will be exciting to see the duo compete against Kevin Durant, especially after Durant’s impressive move against Bronny in their last matchup.
