La La Anthony and Ciara have been long-time friends. The actor has spoken about her relationship with Ciara and the support she received from the “Get Up” singer during her divorce from her then-husband, Carmelo Anthony.

On Nov. 15, La La appeared on Carmelo’s show, “7 PM in Brooklyn.” Her appearance coincided with their son, Kiyan, making his decision to join Syracuse for college.

La La Anthony opens up on why she still keeps her last name despite being divorced

La La Anthony revealed during a guest appearance at Fanatics Fest why she has kept her last name despite being divorced for over three years. She said her son’s basketball career influenced the decision.

“The moment of being able to buy Kiyan’s NBA jersey will be crazy,” La La Anthony said. “That’s why I haven’t changed my last name yet. I’m gonna keep it around for a little while.”

The couple separated in 2017 and divorced in 2021. However, they have maintained a close relationship and supported their son, Kiyan, as he follows in his dad’s footsteps and becomes a professional basketball player.

She had declared her loyalty to her son, saying she would root for him regardless of what team drafts him, other than the New York Knicks.

“Not that hard! I’m sorry I’m going where my kid goes! Wherever my kid is at, that’s who I’m rooting for. It’s different when it’s your kid. It’s just a whole different ball game. It feels like a brand new journey that I’m going on with him.”

La La Anthony met Carmelo while plying his trade with the Denver Nuggets in 2004. Melo, a three-time Olympic gold medallist, was a rising star after he got drafted by the Nuggets in the 2003 NBA draft. He would go on to become a 10-time NBA All-Star and retired in 2022 after his last season with the LA Lakers.
