THE CHALLENGE has teased a major twist ahead of Season 40 of The Challenge, releasing a wild trailer showing players in tears.

The upcoming season of The Challenge will be a clash of players from 39 seasons over 26 years.

Fans got their first glimpse at Battle of the Eras in a super trailer released by the network on Thursday.

The teaser opens with a glimpse at a shocking challenge in which players appear to be tasked with taking a running leap off a ledge at the top of a skyscraper, reaching for hanging bars, and risking falling to the ground below if they miss.

Well-known competitor Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio is shown trying and failing, letting out a guttural scream.

Brief clips of various challenges are shown while competitors talk about The Challenge in voiceovers.

It’s clear this upcoming season of The Challenge won’t be easy.

In addition to the actual competition, the various personalities on the show will clash.

The trailer teases a series of blowups and fights, with some leaving competitors in tears.

“In case you haven’t guessed yet, half of you are gonna see an elimination tonight,” he announced.

Players are shown standing with their mouths hanging agape.

“There’s always a twist,” one player announces in a voiceover.

“You have never seen a battle like this before,” TJ assures viewers in the clip.

MEET THE PLAYERS

The Challenge: Battle of the Eras will bring some big players back to the small screen.

CT Tamburello, Mark Long, Bananas, and more are just a few of the noteworthy Challengers returning for what’s sure to be an epic season.

CT, Jodi Weatherton, Darrel Taylor, and Rachel Robinson will compete as Era 1.

Era 2 will include Aviv Melmed, Emily Schromm, and Cara Maria.

Tori Deal, Leroy Garrett, Jordan Wiseley, Nurys Mateo, and Michelle Fitzgerald will be part of Era 3 and Era 4.

Cory Wharton and other fan favorites are also slated to appear on the show.

ALL NEW CHALLENGE

MTV began teasing The Challenge Season 40 well before its slated premiere date.

The network teased the series in a synopsis, writing, “the path to glory is far from easy, as they must first compete at the Era Invitational and eliminate the weakest links from within their own Challenge Era for only the best will earn a coveted spot on their team.”

“With relentless new challenges and twists, these seasoned Veterans are perpetually kept on their toes in the game they thought they had mastered,” the network continued.

Fans have hurled some suggestions about what the network could do to keep the show interesting, complaining about a lack of “real eliminations” in earlier seasons.

“Please have real eliminations and a real physical final. Let’s leave the carnival stuff at home,” one critical viewer wrote in the comments on an Instagram post teasing the Season 40 The Challenge cast.

“I really hope we get real challenges this season and not this mess yall been doing,” penned a second.

“My kids could do what y’all been having my favs do!”

“I just hope that this one have real challenges specially in the end !!!! Laura victor was SOOOOOO wrong !!! I miss the hardcore finals … I would love to see Wes, Banans and Jordan in this season too,” wrote yet a third.
